Dubai: Whilst Apple’s latest smartphone has sold out in most official stores across the UAE, the iPhone X is still up for grabs elsewhere. The only catch is you will have to pay close to Dh10,000 for one.

On Saturday night, online retailer MyGSM was listing a silver 256GB iPhone X on its website for Dh9,999. The phone has since been sold, but that wasn’t the last iPhone X on the resale market.

The most expensive iPhone on Dubizzle’s website is currently a brand new space grey 256GB iPhone X, listed at Dh9,400, with the next most expensive selling for Dh8,000.

According to Apple’s website, the listed price for its new flagship phone is Dh4,099 for the 64GB, and Dh4,729 for the 256GB model.

As official partners to Apple, companies like du and etisalat cannot increase the price of the iPhone X.

Instead, the vast price increases seen online come from individuals who purchased the phone not for personal use but as a business opportunity.

With the vast majority of official stores selling out within 24 hours of the iPhone X’s release last Friday, these resellers are taking advantage of the high demand for the new phone by adding steep premiums.

Even more established electronics retailers, such as Grand Stores and Al Falak Electronics, have increased the price of their 256GB iPhone X to around Dh6,000, nearly Dh1,300 more expensive than Apple’s retail price.

Neither of these companies is tied to Apple’s official recommended retail price, and therefore can raise their prices as they see fit.
