Dubai: Sharaf DG has launched a new tablet – eKlasse Spark – at Gitex to cash in on the growing tablet frenzy.

“Currently, it is selling like hot cakes since Monday. At Dh499, we are the only tablet offering 8GB of capacity instead of 4GB offered by other OEM brands plus an HDMI port,” said Nilesh Khalkho, CEO of Sharaf DG.

He said it is made by an Indian firm Simmtronics, maker of the world’s cheapest tablet.

“eKlasse Spark is designed as per our specifications. Right now it will only be available across our outlets in the UAE. We are planning to retail it in other outlets across the Gulf,” he said.

The 800*400 pixel 7-inch tablet is powered by 1.2GHz Cortex A10 processor and runs on Android 4 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system. The memory can be expanded up to 32GB by microSD card.

“It’s the only tablet in its price slab to sport a Glass on Glass capacitive multi-touch screen, such a screen gives customers the benefit of durability and good touch experience similar to the top brands,” Khalkho said.

“At the moment, all OEM tablets are flying off the shelf due to price advantage. eKlasse gives five hours of playtime and supports 3G dongle and WiFi,” he said.
