Dubai: A serpentine line of people had formed outside the Apple store in Mall of Emirates in Dubai on Saturday, with customers eager to buy the new iPhone 7 and the bigger iPhone 7 Plus.

Excited customers were already in the queue as early as two hours before the store opened at 8am.

Ahmad Al Hajri from Saudi Arabia was the first person to buy an iPhone 7 in Dubai. He couldn’t contain his excitement.

Like the rest of the customers at the Apple store, Al Hajra had a pre-booking to purchase the device, which was already sold out ahead of the launch date in the UAE.

Customers, however, can still continue to place orders online, with an expected delivery time of around three weeks.

The iPhone 7 is available in the UAE for Dh2,599 (32GB), Dh2,999 (128GB) and Dh3,399 (256GB). The iPhone 7 Plus is available for Dh3,099 (32GB), Dh3,499 (128GB) and Dh3,899 (256GB).

Customers can choose among five colours, including the new black variations — Matte Black and Jet Black, with the latter being a glossy variation that is only available in the 128GB and 256GB options, replacing the old Space Grey colour. The other colours are Silver, Gold and Rose Gold.

The new glossy “Jet Black” colour is reportedly proving to be a big hit, followed by the regular black.

Fahad Al Bannai, CEO of axiom telecom, had said that the iPhone 7 accounted for about 55 per cent of the retailer’s pre-booking orders, while the iPhone 7 Plus accounted for 45 per cent.
