Dubai: Eros Group, sole distributor for Samsung Electronics, will start selling the Samsung Galaxy Tablet in the first week of next month.
Eros Group chief executive officer Deepak Babani told Gulf News: "Samsung recognises the tremendous growth potential in the new concept of mobility and we believe that the Samsung Galaxy Tablet can enrich consumers' online experience wherever they may be".
The seven-inch TFT-LCD display runs on the Android operating system 2.2, powered by Cortex A8 1 GHZ processor. The product, with in-built 3G HSUPA connectivity, 802.11n WiFi, and Bluetooth 3, can be used as a mobile phone.
The iPad, which has a nine-inch display, can be used as a phone, but not with traditional SIM cards. It has a micro SIM slot like the iPhone 4. The traditional SIMs measure 15 x 25mm and have an angled corner. The new micro-SIM is 12 x 15mm.
Price tag
The price of the 16GB Samsung device is expected to be about Dh2,500 while the 32GB is expected to be about Dh3,100.
"We expect to sell 10,000 units per month as we see exponential growth for this new product," Babani said.
"We have tied up with etisalat and they have given us big numbers which are confidential."
Supporting the latest Adobe Flash Player 10.1, the tablet came in two capacities — 16GB and 32 GB and expandable up to 32GB using SD card, he said.
The white product has a front-facing camera allowing face-to-face video telephony over 3G, and a rear-facing camera for capturing still images and video, which is not available in iPad. The Samsung Galaxy Tablet has a battery life of around 10 hours.
Babani said Samsung would be selling a keyboard dock which combines a dock for charging your tablet with a full-sized keyboard and a stylus.
More vendors are already on their way with screen sizes measuring between seven and 10 inches.
