Dubai: Initial quantities of the iPhone 7 Plus have been sold out globally in all colours while the smaller iPhone 7 has also sold out in the new Jet Black colour, Engadget and CNBC websites said on Thursday.

Back home, etisalat’s website shows that 7 Plus (Black and Jet Black) is already sold out along with the Gold (32GB) and Silver (128GB). The iPhone 7 (Jet Black) is also sold out. Du’s website did not indicate anything of the nature.

So, customers who enter Apple stores in Dubai and Abu Dhabi, without pre-bookings, are unlikely to be able to purchase the devices from the shelves, according to industry sources. However, they can continue to place orders for their desired models online with an expected delivery time of around three weeks.

“As is usually the case with all Apple launches, supplies will be very limited across the UAE. We are doing our best to ensure that we secure as much stock as possible to satisfy all our customers,” said Fahad Al Bannai, CEO of axiom telecom, adding that the new glossy ‘Jet Black’ colour is proving to be a big hit, followed by the regular black.

Pre-booking orders

He added that “the iPhone 7 is showing slightly greater demand, but the gap is extremely close, which hasn’t always been the case historically — the iPhone 7 accounts for about 55 per cent of our pre-booking orders, while the iPhone 7 Plus accounts for 45 per cent.”

Breaking the tradition, Apple said during the launch that it will not release its first-weekend sales of the devices, saying the sales figure is more a reflection of supply than demand.

The US company had sold more than 13 million of iPhone 6S and 6S Plus just after three days of the launch.
