Dubai: Mobile cyber threats are becoming increasingly prevalent due to the users being general unaware of the dangers.

According to a survey conducted by Kaspersky Lab and B2B International, 29 per cent of users know nothing about mobile malware and this ignorance plays into the hands of cybercriminals, the report said.

Approximately 51 per cent of Android-based smartphones and 56 per cent of Android tablets are protected by an antivirus solution, while 25 per cent of smartphones and 31 per cent of tablets are not even password-protected, the report said.

More threats

The risky behaviour by their owners stems from the fact that 29 per cent of them are not aware of the existence of cyber threats targeting mobiles. Furthermore, according to the survey, Android users encounter online threats more often than the users of Windows-based devices.

Windows device users also know more about the dangers and tend to protect their devices in nine out of 10 cases

“To avoid falling victim to scams, users are advised to protect their devices against cyber threats and be especially careful with any sensitive data stored on them,” said Victor Yablokov, head of the Mobile Product Line at Kaspersky Lab.
