Dubai: Micromax is the mobile handset maker from India that has brought about revolutionary changes in mobile phones market. Micromax's M2 is a music-centric phone which has got a useful collection of technical attributes that offers value for money.

The sleek candybar phone has dual-SIM cap-abilities and is equipped with a touch wheel in the front. The massive headphones are bound to augment the music experience.

The click wheel is a shortcut to music with the left and right sides dedicated to previous/next track selection. The bottom section of the click wheel is for stopping a song. Below the click wheel, the buttons are a tad small but nevertheless, easy and comfortable to use.

Although the * and # keys double up as volume keys, it would probably have been a better idea to have a volume rocker on any side of the handset.

The M2 comes with a two-inch-wide 240x320 pixel QVGA display. One of the biggest turn offs of the M2 is that the phone doesn't allow memory expansion.

Memory

There's 2GB of inbuilt memory and that is it. The phone doesn't support more than 2GB and it seems pointless to limit memory on a music phone.

The Micromax M2 has a 2MP camera for basic photography. I was surprised by the quality of pictures though it is not exactly intended to be a camera phone. It will come in handy to click some quick pictures on the go. It also comes with a video player that produces decent videos.

There's no 3G or Wi-Fi but there's the usual GPRS and EDGE for internet connectivity and WAP browser.

The handset gives decent call quality and the phone definitely has the ability to capture signals even in closed places where they are dodgy.

The 79-gram M2 that uses a Java-based user interface is a value-for-money handset for Dh399.

The entertainment value of the M2 is high, with stereo FM which can also be recorded on the 2GB internal memory. The sound effects are augmented with the built-in Yamaha audio amplifier, and SRS WOW high-definition sound, which is basically a sound-effect control software that allows you to give a variety of effects.
