Dubai: Young innovators have a chance to win Dh50,000 funding and an incubator training course to help them develop their ideas.

The Intelak scheme, a joint venture between Emirates Group, GE, etisalat and Dubai Silicon Oasis Authority, was launched on Tuesday and aims to foster new ideas in travel, technology and aviation.

It’s offering 20 teams of entrepreneurs and students the chance to take part in a two-week business and design boot camp. Four of those teams will be chosen for the full incubation programme and funding.

At the conclusion of the programme, the winning teams will be given the opportunity to pitch their ideas to the co-founders, as well as angel investors.

Teams have until October 31 to register through www.intelak.com.

“The aviation industry is constantly changing and being technologically-advanced and innovative is the only way to stay ahead,” said Abdul Aziz Al Ali, executive vice-president of Human Resources at Emirates. “Intelak is the ideal platform to inspire and work with young entrepreneurs to shape the future of travel through new and original ideas.”

Rania Rostom, chief innovation officer for GE in the Middle East, North Africa & Turkey said, “Innovation is at the heart of the UAE’s development narrative, with the nation’s leadership focused on promoting an innovation-driven entrepreneurial ecosystem. Intelak serves the dual purpose of not only nurturing talent in the UAE, but also contributing to the growth of the aviation and travel sectors, both drivers of the national economy.”

Intelak — Arabic for ‘Take Off’ — will be hosted at Dubai Technology Entrepreneur Centre (DTEC), DSOA’s wholly owned technology incubation centre.
