Dubai: Dubai Police Headquarters have successfully implemented the Avaya's next-generation communications network at its new base, says Colonel Dr Khalid Ali Ghanim Al Marri, director of communications and electronic developments.

The headquarters, which was inaugurated as part of the Dubai Police Golden Jubilee celebrations, provides integrated voice and data solutions.

"In our case Avaya was the best solution as we have tried other vendors also.

"We have 1,200 telephone sets in the main office and 300 units in Bur Dubai and we are trying to link these sets," Khalid told Gulf News.

Avaya provides officers and support staff with a productivity tool which gives them the flexibility to do their jobs from multiple locations, as well as centralising the operators in a call centre environment to ensure that calls are directed quickly and efficiently.

"In the past 50 years, Dubai Police has become a friendly face to the community, through its continued reassuring presence on the streets and ongoing communication with the people of Dubai," says Colonel Eng Kamel Butti Al Suwaidi, deputy manager of the General Operations Department.

He says working with Avaya "has allowed us to implement the best in the intelligent communications in our office to empower our people wherever they are, extending their deskphone functionality to their mobiles, and redefining communication for the good of all the community."

Avaya signed a deal on Sunday with the Department of Health to provide all their hospitals with its systems and says major deals are in the pipeline and sees strong demand for its systems in the region.
