Dubai: The Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry is teaming up with multinational tech company IBM to launch a new online community supporting start-ups in the emirate.

The Dubai Digital Entrepreneurship Hub has been established to connect start-ups, entrepreneurs, developers, venture capitalists and students, according to an emailed statement from the Chamber on Sunday.

The Chamber said the hub will “help accelerate innovation and stimulate the local economy.” IBM will provide mentoring, support and access to its resources, including offers to join its Global Entrepreneur Programme.

The Dubai Digital Entrepreneurship Hub, which will come under the umbrella of the Smart Dubai Initiative, is the first of its kind in the Middle East and Africa, according to the statement.

Hamad Buamim, the president and chief executive of Dubai Chamber, said the hub is a “major step … to consolidate the concept of a smarter community.”

Members of the online community will interact in a cloud environment that will also advertise new job opportunities, local tech news, sign up for tech events as well as classes and meetups.
