This Dubai Shopping Festival major retailers are again bundling hardware, like portable hard disk drives, software and accessories and peripherals, as they try to promote the sale of their laptops and other products.
Tablets, smartphones, Windows 8 laptops/ultrabooks, DSLR cameras and LED TV’s (especially for Indian customers) is likely to fuel growth.
“Much of the Gitex offers came from IT-related products. In DSF we have a wider range of products including white goods. Smartphones and tablets will be key players. Unlike like the madness at the eight-day Gitex, DSF will have a much wider shopping experience across Dubai,” Vishesh Bhatia, Jumbo Electronics CEO, told Gulf News.
Jumbo is offering Sony products with up to Dh500 gift vouchers, price cuts on various models and hi-value bundles such as Xperia Ion smartphones and Blu-ray home theatres on large screen TVs.
Customers will receive gifts such as digital still cameras, 500GB hard disk drives, seven- inch android tablets and routers with a purchase of a laptop from Jumbo. For smartphones lovers, any purchase will entitle them to win Dh250 accessory vouchers. In addition, Intel is presenting the “Scratch & Win” promotion for opportunities to win up to Dh5,000 back in cash.
Apart from the retailers, Visa is also running promotions for for card holders, Karim Beg, Head of Marketing for MENA at Visa, said. “Our Big Box promotion is set to offer exciting rewards for our consumers with added intrigue of keeping people guessing about the nature of our grand prize throughout the month,” he said.
Even though each retailer is spending more than a million this DSF, many are seeing only a single-digit growth this year.
“We predict single-digit growth this year. There is money in people’s wallet. How much can they spend? Those who wanted things bought it during Gitex and throughout the year we have offers in the UAE. We see visitors coming through the Dubai Airport and the statistics show an increase in hospitality industry,” Bhatia said.
“Considering categories like televisions, we have seen prices drop heavily this year, growth has become more challenging with dropping price points. We are focusing on bundle offers this time,” Ashish Panjabi, COO at Jacky‘s, said.
DSF this year should result in positive growth as more tourists from the Gulf, Russia and China of late. For the GCC, Dubai is a weekend trip, for the Russians, they celebrate Christmas in January so many of them would be on holiday and the Chinese have Chinese New Year coming up this month as well.
According to Neelesh Bhatnagar, CEO of Emax, smartphones, tablets and LED TVs will be the key drivers of growth during the event.
“We are spending around Dh8 million this DSF and we will be giving away Dh1 million to the luck winner and Dh5 million Centrepoint gift vouchers to customers apart from the bundled and discounted offers,” Bhatnagar said.
Emax is expecting around 45 per cent increase in revenues when compared to last year’s DSF and are very optimistic about this year as more Russian and Sub-Continent tourists are flowing into Dubai.
