Dubai: Stefan said that once Load-Me reaches its targets, the traffic generated by heavy trucks will be reduced by 10 per cent in the UAE and the carbon emissions can be reduced by eight million tonnes a year in the GCC.

“The transportation and storage industry contributes approximately 2,800 mega tonnes, i.e. 5.5 per cent of the total 50,000 mega tonnes of carbon-dioxide emissions generated by all human activity,” CEO of Load-Me said.

Assuming the carbon-dioxide emissions are directly proportional to the population and considering the Middle East has a population of 218 million in 2013, he said that the transportation industry in the Middle East is responsible approximately for 84 million tonnes of carbon-dioxide emissions.

“Most of the trucks [80 per cent] are backhauling empty now, that means a lot of empty trucks are generating unnecessary traffic, pollution and congestion. Assuming that LoadMe can eliminate one out of 10 empty returns by connecting transporters with many load owners, this will reduce the traffic generated by trucks by 10 per cent, this 10 per cent of 84 million tonnes of carbon-dioxide emissions is 8 million tonnes less carbon-dioxide emissions,” he said.
