Dubai: The original owners of NKD Pizza in the UAE have launched Freedom Pizza after ending their franchise agreement for the fast-food brand, according to a statement on Sunday.

The carry-out and delivery business is already operational with five stores in Dubai. They are located in Al Barsha, Dubai Marina, Dubailand, Downtown and Mirdif.

One outlet in Abu Dhabi is expected to open in the short-term.

“We’ve chosen Dubai as the home for Freedom because it perfectly mirrors our attitude — fresh, dynamic, multicultural, ambitious, fast-growing and open to sharing with the world,” said Ian Ohan, co-founder and chief executive of the company, in the statement.

The products are “sourced locally wherever possible and offer a multi-grained dough that contains no preservatives or additives,” according to the statement.

The vegetables are sourced from Greenheart Organic Farms, while its gluten-free pizza crusts and desserts are baked by Skinny Genie. It also uses Italian-style artisan cheese products made in the UAE with locally sourced milk.

“We used to be a franchise, now we are locally-owned. This allows us to do more for our customers, our staff and the community,” stated Robbie Vitrano, co-founder and chief brand architect.
