Dubai: All is set for the Middle East Creative Design Conference from October 23-25 at Dubai Knowledge Village. Creatives from the publishing industry will join in for a full-day conference to talk about the latest trends across all media platforms.

There will be speakers from the US, China, India, Oman, the Philippines and the UK to talk about aspects in creative design such as management, interactivity, infographics and page layout.

On the interactivity parameter, Doha-based Al Jazeera will be represented by Mohammad Haddad, Senior Interactive Producer. He will talk about the advances and innovations in their storytelling projects. Al Jazeera has built several long-form storytelling projects that have infused investigative journalism with digital technology and allowed users to experience stories in more engaging ways.

‘Made in China’ is the China Daily’s presentation title. Design Director Bill Gaspard will present developments in the publication in recent years. The main English-language newspaper in China is published in 51 countries and the design management requires more than a comprehensive style guide and a multicultural dimension.

This year the conference theme is infographics, which is the graphic representation of information and data by charts and illustrations. Fernando Baptista, Graphic Artist from ‘National Geographic’, will explain how graphics are produced in the magazine. “To produce a graphic in NG it isn’t easy, it’s a long process, usually several months and during this time a team of people works hard in pursuit of excellence. We worked with the best experts, we produce several sketches, sometimes more than 20 and we can spend days just looking for the information of a small detail.’

The conference will also give an overview of the creative market in the UAE. Dani Blizzard and Lois Knowles, recruitment consultants from Digitalgurus, will expound on what roles are in demand in the region.

The best of Middle East News Design competition will be announced during the conference.
