Dubai: Gulf News has been ranked top in the Arab world by Forbes.

Gulf News is top English language website in the United Arab Emirates and 12th among Arab and English language websites in the region, according to Forbes Middle East 2011 Top Newspapers Online ranking in Middle East and North Africa region.

Mohammed Almezel, Gulf News Managing Editor, received the award late on Monday.

The ceremony was attended by Dr Nasser Al Tayyar, President of Arab Publisher House-Forbes Middle East magazine and editors of leading Arab newspapers.

Editor-in-Chief of Forbes Middle East magazine Khuloud Al Omian said: "We detected significant changes from last year's list. It indicates the list's success by contributing a greater awareness amongst decision makers of these Newspaper Websites. Also the ranking highlights the significant role of electronic newspapers in changing the shape of the press. One of the most important changes is the increase in the number of newspapers in that made it to our list. This year or list comprises of 63 online newspapers while last year it was 50".
