Dubai: Dubai-based telecom operator du has signed a deal to provide an exclusive subscription to OSN’s all-new online and mobile app entertainment platform — Wavo — for free until the end of the year.

OSN launched the app in August this year with a combination of both live and catch-up TV. Its content includes English and Arabic programming, covering hit TV series, blockbuster movies and live and exclusive sporting events with the option for English and Arabic subtitles.

After the deadline, Osman Sultan, chief executive officer of du, told Gulf News that there will be a price but it will be bundled with different packages.

“People are consuming content in a different manner now. Digitalisation is paving the way for the future of TV, and as an adaptive and agile ICT provider, we strive to add value through innovation for all our customers,” he said.

OSN will provide 14 channels under entertainment, five under movies and six channels of sports as part of the agreement.

Martin Stewart, CEO of OSN, said that the network is giving more customers across the region its next phase of new OSN — entertainment everywhere for everyone at a price to suit every pocket.

Regarding 4K TV channels, Sultan said that it needs to be based on a financial healthy ecosystem.

“We need to do what we need to do but we will see. Our network is ready for the 4K platform,” he said.

OSN said that 4K is on its road map for 2018 but for the moment there is not enough content, affecting viability.
