Dubai: Al Ahli Publishing and Distribution (APD), a subsidiary of UAE-based conglomerate Al Ahli Holding Group (AAHG), has introduced popular international comic books and magazines in Arabic.

APD is the first company outside the US to have the rights for publishing and distribution of leading international comic books in English and Arabic, belonging to top Hollywood studios, according to a statement. It is also the first company to secure rights to translate in the Persian language.

“The recent efforts that aimed at promoting the Arabic language through Arabisation initiatives have inspired AAHG to introduce international comic books in Arabic,” said Mohammad Khammas, chief executive of AAHG, in the statement.

The comics will allow the young Arab generation to connect with pop culture phenomena in a language of their own, he said.

The company has begun publishing and distributing titles of Marvel’s Ironman, Spiderman, Hulk, Thor and Avengers. It also has strategic tie-ups with other studios — DC Comics and Sanrio — which would include publishing of comic books, magazines and activity books.

AAHG has a broad portfolio of activities, including the management of the publishing rights for many intellectual properties.
