Dubai: Thousands of awe-struck people watching the giant screens broke out in cheers as the new Expo 2020 logo was revealed at Dubai Fountain.
Visitors were glued to the screen, taking videos, pictures and selfies as the logo was displayed on the Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest tower.
Many said the logo was impressive in itself but what made it even more appealing was the story behind it.
Pakistani logo designer Syed Jafar Rizvi, 34, who had submitted his work in the logo competition, said the surprise logo was simple and effective.
“Its interlocking rings, which make up the ring as a whole, reflects the “connecting minds” tag line. Also I feel the rings of various shapes symbolize the different ideas that will come together at the Expo,” Rizvi added.
Canadian expat Alexander said the story of the unearthing of the ring and how it lent inspiration to the logo was “beautiful and made sense”.
Another admirer, Egyptian expat Amar Hamed, 35, said he was “drawn into the logo by its rich warm colour and circles within circles”.
The event attracted thousands of people who enjoyed the live screening of the proceedings as well as the water and fireworks show especially put together to compliment the announcements.
Short clips about the logo competition and archaeological discovery were also shown.
