Dubai: UAE consumers will be seeing a new Dh1 coin landing in their purses soon.

The UAE Central Bank announced on Wednesday that a commemorative coin that seeks to honour the “Mother of the Nation” will be reissued.

The move is on the occasion of the patronage of Sheikha Fatima Programme for Excellence and Social Creativity, according to state news agency WAM.

The special coin is set to be circulated today.

“The commemorative dirham will be put in circulation through branches of the Central Bank with effect from Wednesday, 22nd November, as per usual practice,” the announcement reads.

The Central Bank had issued the commemorative coin back in 2005. It was meant to recognise the enormous efforts by the Mother of the Nation to create a "bright and prosperous future for generations of UAE men and women."

The old version of the Dh1 coin can still be seen being advertised for sale on e-commerce sites like souq.com.
