Dubai: Axiom Telecom has made a direct supply agreement with the manufacturers of BlackBerry, Research In Motion (RIM) to distribute the product around its selling points across the region, cutting out the need for intermediary distributors.

The deal will allow Axiom Telecom to directly distribute the delivery of BlackBerry smartphones and accessories in the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain, Jordan and Lebanon.

Axiom currently sells a wide range of BlackBerry models including the recently launched BlackBerry Torch 9800.

"This direct distribution agreement with RIM is a very positive development for Axiom. Smartphones like BlackBerry are in high-growth mode as consumers increasingly look for additional functionality and carriers seek to increase revenues through content usage driven by applications. This is good news for Axiom, not only because smartphone margins are higher, but also because we have significant market share in the region, providing over half the smartphones in the UAE and Saudi Arabia," Faisal Al Bannai, CEO of Axiom Telecom, told Gulf News.

The Axiom group currently covers more than 3,300 points of sale across the Middle East.
