Dubai: With more than 2,000 nominations, the judges sure had to do a bit of sifting to eventually select the winners of the Dubai Lynx Awards for 2012.

In the media category there were 12 gold winners with campaigns for an automobile brand and one that spoke up against child abuse, among others.

Winners in 15 categories, including for public relations and design, were revealed late Tuesday night. That apart, agencies and individuals were honoured as part of the special awards.

Y&R Dubai, Memac Ogilvy & Mather Dubai and Memac Ogilvy Label Tunisia made it to the ‘Agency of the Year' category in the Special Awards, while Leo Burnett, Ogilvy and Y&R came up trumps as the ‘Network of the Year'.

Raja Trad, CEO of the Leo Burnett Group Mena, is the Dubai Lynx Advertising Person 2012.

Media category

In the media category, the agencies that topped the rankings were Leo Burnett Beirut, StarcomMediaVest Dubai and JWT Beirut.

Intaj The Production House, Lighthouse Cairo and Eleven Cairo were all chosen for the Lynx Palm.

The awards were not just for the agencies and media houses.

In the category of ‘Advertiser of the Year' category, it was Procter and Gamble that impressed the judges. Al Rajwani, vice-president and general manager for the Arabian Peninsula and Pakistan at Procter and Gamble, received the award on behalf of the company.

In the mobile category, there were no gold winners. But with advertisers and agencies placing so much emphasis on digital and smartphone-led campaigns, this will not be the case in the coming years.

Radio also could not pull off a gold run this year, and had to make do with five silvers.

There were two gold winners in the category for integrated campaigns, and one gold was awarded in the interactive space.

In films, as many as 19 golds were handed out, plus two grand prix honours.

Seven winners emerged with gold plus a grand prix honour when the judges decided the rankings in the outdoor category.

Three grand prix certifications were handed in the print and poster craft category, but no gold.

There were five golds in film craft and one grand prix in design. In the promo and activation rankings, there were four golds and one grand prix.

In the public relations space, six campaigns walked away with the gold.

Print category: Dubai firms dominate

The Dubai-based offices of some of the leading agency networks swept the honours in the print category winning three golds and three grand prix certifications. In addition, the agencies also amassed 16 silvers and 12 bronzes.

Y&R notched 22 wins in the category, DDB had three, FP7 had four, while there were three for Memac Ogilvy and Mather, and two for JWT.
