Dubai: The advertising agency Y&R picked up three golds and a grand prix certification at last night's Dubai Lynx Awards 2012 for a campaign that it conceived and executed for Gulf News.

The awards were for Gulf News' ‘Headline News' cup sleeve campaign done in tandem with Tim Hortons. The campaign won in the Direct, Promo and Activation categories.

There was also a bronze for the same campaign in the Outdoor category.

As part of the campaign, headlines from Gulf News' Twitter feed were pulled out by the baristas at Tim Hortons and printed on the sleeves of coffee cups at the JBR Walk outlet. The machine was installed in February and has been operational for a few weeks.

It is also the first time that the region has seen such a campaign.

"What works for us is that fresh news goes with fresh coffee — there is a synergy," Duleep George, executive director for marketing and sales at Al Nisr Publishing, said.

"Our thanks to Tim Hortons and the Apparel Group [the master-franchisee] for their conviction in supporting the campaign. We loved the concept the moment we saw it and have received many compliments from people who have been to the outlet."
