It is that time of the year when the best in media creativity in the region gets a platform. The second edition of ‘The Best of Middle East News Design’ is open for submissions, and for the first time a new category for online and interactive news design has been introduced.

The addition is an obvious realisation that online design and interactive features are a key aspect of telling and informing readers through digital media. The visual approach in publications is no longer considered just a value-add. It is integral to the overall seamless delivery of content to the intended audience.

Vital requirements — relevant information and a distinctive editorial style — has to be packaged with effective and consistent design as a bare minimum requirement for all manner of publications.

Last year, more than 350 entries were received from regional entities and designers. The winning entries were made available for download on ‘The Best of Middle East News Design’ on iTunes, and also featured interviews with art directors and the judges who decided on the winners.

For eligibility this year, the submitted works need to be those done and published over a 12-month period leading up to August. A special category related to designs used during the Brazil World Cup has also been introduced. There are no registration fees. More information can be found on http://snd-20.org/competitions/.
