Dubai: There was a certain degree of fluidity in the brand preferences of UAE residents going by the latest rankings put out by the market researcher YouGov.

While Samsung settled in at the top spot, pushing Google into the second spot, Carrefour shot up from ninth to fourth in the Top 10 Buzz Rankings for the first six months of the year. Three other brands made a first-time entry in the rankings - Emaar, Dubai Mall and — certainly a belated entry — Facebook.

Emirates airline retained its third place standing, while Apple claimed the fifth position and the iPhone by itself was placed eighth. The Gulf’s largest dairy company Almarai also managed a Top 10 status despite seeing its ranking drop five places.

Those brands which got squeezed out of the top echelons included Nestle, Galaxy, Dove and Dettol.

YouGov’s BrandIndex tracks more than 500 brands in the UAE across multiple sectors simultaneously. Rankings are created using a score calculated by asking respondents if they have heard anything positive or negative about a brand in the last two weeks, through advertising, news, word-of-mouth or friends and family.

Meanwhile, in the spots for the ‘Top 10 Buzz Improvers’, Amazon made it to the top, and followed by LinkedIn and KFC.
