Dubai: Some of the best creative works in Dubai's printing and publishing industry and the companies behind them won top honours at a recent industry event.

In the sixth consecutive year that the Dubai International Print Awards (DIPA) have been awarded under the umbrella of the Dubai Chamber, there were 25 categories from which 91 winners were identified.

Al Nisr Publishing, the owner of Gulf News, was named in the "Magazine" category.

"The printing and publishing industry in the region is expected to grow to $7 billion (Dh25.7 billion) by 2015," said Ahmad Bin Hassan Al Shaikh, chairman of the Printing and Publishing Group.

"The Dubai International Print Awards benchmark that growth and recognise the leaders in the industry."

Launched in 2006 to recognise exceptional talent in the printing industry in the UAE and the GCC, participation in the awards has grown by more than 54 per cent and expanded to include works from North Africa, the Levant and the sub-continent. More than 500 participants were in the running this year.

The judging panel came up with their final choices based on competencies in the management, efficiency, quality and contemporary technological advancements of the material submitted.

"Since its conception, the entries to the DIPA award have shown consistent improvement both in terms of quality and product innovation," said Nicholas Jung, head of the judging panel and scheme director at the London College of Communication.
