Fujairah: His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, yesterday visited the Port of Fujairah.
Shaikh Mohammad was briefed by His Highness Shaikh Hamad Bin Mohammad Al Sharqi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Fujairah, on petroleum projects related to oil storage and re-export, which are being implemented in the emirate.
Strategic destinations
Shaikh Mohammad was accompanied by Shaikh Hamdan Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai.
During his visit, Shaikh Mohammad ordered the allocation of Dh4 billion from the federal government budget to fund the implementation of 35 development projects in the emirate and its suburbs.
Shaikh Hamad said that Fujairah Port is one of the world's vital and strategic destinations for bunker fuelling and a centre for fuel storage.
Fujairah Port is situated on the Eastern Seaboard of the UAE, approximately 70 nautical miles from the Strait of Hormuz.
Its strategic position has proved attractive to both the range of users of the multi-purpose port and the significant number of vessels which call into the Fujairah Anchorage for bunkers, supplies and service.
Shaikh Hamad pointed out that the port would undergo expansion to increase the number of warehouses from 125 stores with storage capacity of three million cubic metres at present, to 250 stores with storage capacity of eight million cubic metres of fuel products.
Most important
Shaikh Mohammad praised the expansion and development projects currently being executed in the emirate's port, describing the Port of Fujairah as one of the most important and vital ports in the UAE and the region.
"The port is a source of pride for the UAE, its leadership and citizens, and a source of the UAE's diverse national economy," Shaikh Mohammad said as he expressed his confidence that the future of the port is promising on the global stage.
