Dubai: eCompany, Etisalat's one-stop e-powerhouse business unit that provides internet services and ICT (information and communication technology) solutions yesterday announced that it activated the anti-spam plus service for all Al Shamil broadband home subscribers to protect them against the growing menace.

eCompany research in 2005 has shown that customers who registered for this free service received 55 per cent of their incoming e-mails as spam, according to a press release.

The eCompany anti-spam plus service utilises the world renowned Sym-antec Brightmail anti-spam solution, which stops spam attacks in real time at the internet gateway level.

Without compromising accuracy, it leverages over 20 different filtering technologies, including spam signatures, heuristics and many other proprietary methods to protect subscribers.

Comprehensive threat protection also helps consolidate e-mail threat management and monitoring via optional virus scanning and cleaning.

The system automatically filters subscriber e-mails and stores messages it recognises as spam in a special web-based 'spam' folder, which is emptied automatically every seven days by ecompany. This makes it easier for subscribers to review their spam e-mails and either move or delete them according to their preferences.

According to Abdullah Hashim, senior manager eCompany, "While other ISPs around the world opted to charge for such an advance anti-spam service, we believe that protection against spam is a major issue for our subscribers."
