Dubai: British Prime Minister David Cameron on Monday sought greater economic ties with the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and the UAE, its biggest trading partner in the Middle East, with an aim to push the sale of 60 fighter jets among other things, according to sources.

Cameron on Monday met British exporters at the Big 5 show, praising them for their latest innovations and new products that are expected to help the region’s construction industry.

“It’s such a pleasure to be here and I am happy to lead a trade mission to take forward the conversations that will deepen the understanding and existing relations between the two countries and governments,” Cameron told reporters during his 15-minute tour of the pavilion. He added that the UAE is a strategic partner of the UK in the region and his government will work to strengthen the bond.

“There are opportunities and challenges and the private sector has a great role to take this strong relationship further,” he told businessmen at the event.
