Dubai: Rolls-Royce announced on Wednesday that it had signed an agreement worth $1.2 billion (Dh4.4 billion) to provide contract engine services, which will power 50 of Emirates’ 152 wide-bodied aircraft.

The company will provide TotalCare long term service support for Trent 700 engines, powering 29 Airbus A330 aircraft and Trent 800 engines, powering 21 Boeing 777 aircraft.

“These agreements will extend the business relationship and strengthen the partnership between the two companies. This will also provide a better platform for effective management of engine life cycle costs and enhanced engine reliability,” said Shaikh Ahmad Bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman and Chief Executive of Emirates Airline and Group.

“We are delighted to announce these agreements with Emirates, a valued customer with three Trent engine family members in service. All are now supported by TotalCare service packages, which optimise operational efficiency,” said Sir John Rose, Chief Executive, Rolls-Royce.

With a fleet of 152 modern, wide-bodied aircraft, Emirates currently flies to 108 destinations in 65 countries from its international hub of Dubai.

Peter Dunsford, Rolls-Royce, Vice President, Civil-Middle East, said: “We have a long and proud history of working with Emirates, which over the last 18 years has gone from strength to strength. These agreements will see us work closely together to improve efficiency across the fleet. They are confirmation of the continuing and successful partnership between our two companies”.

TotalCare long-term service agreements, used on 90 per cent of Trent engines, are designed to minimise customer financial risk and enhance operational performance and reliability.
