Abu Dhabi : British Airways (BA) cancelled one of its three daily flights on the Dubai-London route for Saturday and Sunday and its sole daily flight on the Bahrain-London route, also for Saturday and Sunday, due to the three-day strike by its cabin crew, BA's Area Commercial Manager for the Middle East said yesterday.
"So far, these are the only flight cancellations. We operate one flight on the Abu Dhabi-London route and it's operating as normal," Paolo De Renzis told Gulf News by telephone.
"For passengers who were booked on flights that were cancelled due to the strike, we have re-routed them on other flights either with British Airways or through our partners," De Renzis added.
Fares unchanged
A travel agency executive in Abu Dhabi confirmed that flight fares remained unchanged.
De Renzis said he cannot say now if there wouldn't be any more flight cancellations due to the strike. "The strike has just started. We don't know of that, yet."
British Airways, meanwhile has advised passengers to check its website www.BA.com for the most up to date information with regard to flights and re-booking options.
The strike by cabin crew is over British Airways' plans to alter pay and working conditions.
The airline wants to shave around 60 million euros (Dh298 million) off its budget, to help cope with falling demand, volatile fuel prices and increased competition from low-cost airlines.
The BA cabin crew began a three-day strike yesterday after last-ditch talks on a dispute over pay and conditions collapsed, leaving thousands of travellers facing chaos.
