Dubai: In a new wave of car recalls Nissan Middle East as well as the regional distributor of Lamborghini, Al Jaziri Motors, are asking owners of specific models to contact a mechanic.

In the case of Nissan, 1,250 cars in the UAE are affected by the recall due to a problem with the engine control module, James Thomas, Nissan Middle East spokesman, confirmed to Gulf News yesterday after the company issued a compulsory recall announcement together with the UAE Ministry of Economy.

In a rarer case, Italian super sports car maker Lamborghini is recalling its Murcielago LP640 model, made in 2007 to 2008, both coupe and roadster.

Quick fix

In the UAE, 32 Lambirghini cars are affected, of which 13 have already been fixed, a spokesman of the Lamborghini distributor in the UAE, Al Jaziri in Dubai, told Gulf News.

The recall has been ongoing for a few weeks, but the official announcement by Lamborghini and the UAE Ministry of Economy was issued just yesterday.

"It takes time to notify all UAE Lamborghini owners, because some of the cars are outside the country," the spokesman said.

Lamborghini is recalling more than 400 Murcielagos worldwide, mostly in the US.

A problem has been identified in which the sports car's fuel pump can detach from inside the petrol tank, the company said. This might result in a leak that could cause the car to catch fire if the engine is hot or if there's a spark from the ignition when the car is started.

Nissan's "service campaign" concerns the 2010 Nissan Patrol SUV model.

The carmaker said it has identified a potential problem in the integrated circuit in the vehicle's electronic control module which could — in certain circumstances — break, in turn causing the fuel injection system to stop working and the engine to stop.

VIN plate

The vehicles potentially affected are Vehicle Identification Numbers (VIN) A9000112 to A90004207. The VIN plate can be located on the driver's door and also on the dashboard, the company said.

The replacement part will be fitted and the problem will be "resolved immediately", Nissan said.

Nissan last March recalled 540,000 vehicles worldwide, with more than 32,000 in the Middle East, saying the cars were potentially affected by a fuel gauge inaccuracy.

Another 15,000 were suspected to have faulty brake pedal pins. The 2008 to 2010 Nissan Titan, Armada and Infiniti QX56 models were affected by the gauge problem and 2008 and 2009 Nissan Quest models by the reduced braking force.

In recent months, one recall announcement followed the other worldwide as well as in the UAE. Affected car brands or manufacturers were, among others, Toyota, Lexus, General Motors, Ford, Porsche, and Chrysler.
