Eid Al Fitr is nearly here. Have you locked down on your make-up look yet? Whether you have a soft nude or glam in mind, now's the time to give the vanity a quick once-over. Keep in mind that it's summer, so you'll want to wear sweatproof or waterproof products to see you through the day without touch-ups.

We got in touch with a Dubai-based make-up artist, to help us narrow down our Eid look, along with the essentials to master it. Before we consider cosmetics, however, our expert pauses to stress on skincare above all.

Arti Bhatia, a beauty and lifestyle blogger of over a decade, who goes by @divabeautyae on Instagram, said: "Without proper skin prep, your make-up will look cakey and dry. Follow a skincare routine that suits your skin type, and make sure you're including the basic cleanser, toner, moisturiser and sunscreen."

In terms of skin prep, here are seven easy ways with detailed tips on how to get an Eid glow. As for makeup, Bhatia says your colour palette and type of look will depend on the Eid outfit. A good starting point would be planning with the idea "less is more", she adds.

"Most people are going for warm, summery colours. A nude make-up look with earthy tones will go with every outfit. Soft glam is also popular, where the make-up is glamourous but not overly shimmery, like colouring the inner corner of the eyes with a rose-gold shade and a maroon eyeshadow to match, for a soft look," said Bhatia.

If you're comfortable with a trendier, bold face, she suggests adding a neon eyeliner, such as a pop of blue or yellow-green. Speaking of eyeliner, Bhatia highlights the importance of waterproof makeup for the season, especially for the eyes. "It's surely going to melt and leave marks, so look for more transfer-proof, waterproof products."

From long-lasting lipsticks to highlighters, Bhatia shares some of her make-up favourites for Eid. She leaves us with another tip: "If your eyes are loud, go for nude-coloured lipstick, and if your eye make-up is minimal, apply a darker lip."

1. Best Base Make-up: Missha M Perfect Cover BB Cream #27

Our expert recommends a BB cream over a foundation for a lightweight base make-up. A tube of Korean beauty brand Missha's 'blemish balm' is always in her pouch: "It gives me a beautiful, flawless finish that's glowy. I use it every time I don't want to apply foundation in the summer." The M Perfect Cover BB cream contains moisturising hyaluronic acid and ceramide, as well as rosemary and chamomile extracts to aid in skin healing. But, the best part of all is that it has an SPF (sun protection factor) of 42, rated Pa+++. According to Bhatia, it offers sufficient coverage.

2. Best Contour: NYX Professional Make-up Highlight & Contour Pro Palette

Coming with eight removable and refillable pans, Nyx Professional Make-up Highlight and Contour Pro Palette is another fan-favourite. Sculpt your cheekbones, nose bridge and jawline using eight colours for highlighting and contouring that reviews say are well-pigmented. It’s also great way to introduce yourself or a loved one to basic contouring. Do note the palette does not come with a brush.

3. Best Eyeshadow: Urban Decay Naked Ultraviolet Eyeshadow Palette

For a dreamy soft glam, layer on both glitter and matte shades from Bhatia's recommended Urban Decay Naked eyeshadow palettes. We love the Ultraviolet collection that has twelve shimmery, metallic shades, inspired by the digital world and future tech. Some of these shade-shifting colours give you two eyeshadows in one, perfect for adding a little oomph to your overall eye make-up. It's a versatile palette for every Eid outfit, too – experiment with pleasant blush hues like Mind Slip, Dazed and Hacked, paired with glittery metallics, such as V.R. and Cyber Punk. Plus, the shimmers can be used wet, as well, for more intensity or as a liner. The palette comes with a double-ended brush.

4. Best Eyeliner: NYX Professional Make-up Epic Ink Eye Liner, Pack of 2

You'll want an eyeliner that tattoos and stays on for the entire duration of your outing. Bhatia loves her waterproof options in Nyx Professional Make-up, like the Epic Ink felt-tip liner. This highly pigmented product can go on thin or thick, depending on the pressure and angle applied. The brush tip allows for fluid strokes in one go. According to reviews, the black colour lasts all day and is also fairly easy to remove. You're getting two liners in this pack.

5. Best Highlighter: Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector Poured, Moonstone

Give yourself raised cheekbones and a subtle glow with Becca's Shimmering Skin Perfector highlighter. Bhatia's choice, this skin-perfecting highlighter features fine pigment pearls that adjust to your natural undertones. It even helps to blur imperfections like a setting powder. Trust that it will blend seamlessly on the base make-up, while intensifying the high points of your face.

6. Best Blush: Milani Baked Blush, Corallina

Though liquid blush is all the rage, a classic powdered formula lasts longer and is a better option on warm days. According to our expert, Milani Cosmetics' Baked Blush range is a great one, and she gravitates towards a flattering peach in the shade Corallina. From light to deep skin tones, this pigmented shade colours the cheeks without being too conspicuous. It has a shimmery accent, so you can use it as a highlighter, too. Reviewers love how perfect Corallina is for the summer, especially on sunkissed brown skin. Everyone agrees on the staying power and add that only a slight swipe goes a long way.

7. Best Lipstick: Huda Beauty Liquid Matte Lipstick, Trendsetter

Huda Beauty promises an eight-hour wear with the Liquid Matte Lipstick, during which it'll transfer neither to straws nor masks. Get a non-drying, creamy application in one swipe, thanks to a blend of moisturising ingredients, like lycopene, olive oil, essential fatty acids and vitamins. It dries down without settling into the creases of your lips and offers a buttery matte finish. Bhatia also suggests the brand's lip products for a transfer-proof, summertime wear. Our pick is a beautiful neutral shade called Trendsetter.
