Banking on remakes
The young star says he has no problems doing remakes of South Indian flicks if the content is worthwhile
Prateik is ready with his next film, Ekk Deewana Tha, a remake of a South Indian film. The star son realises that the need of the day is to make commercially viable films - even if they come in the form of remakes. Excerpts from an interview:
What's the buzz around Ekk Deewana Tha (EDT)?
The music is doing well. Hosanna and Aramole are in the top 10 of the music charts and the promos are being appreciated. My pairing with Amy Jackson has also created a lot of interest.
What is it about the script that made you sign the film?
I signed the film because of the story. It's a story about two strangers falling in love, getting into an intense, crazy love relationship. Everybody who has been in love at some point will be reminded of themselves while watching this film. Since it is a remake, I had a good idea about the premise and looks.
Do you recall your first interaction with Amy Jackson? How was it?
Yes, I do. It was pretty formal to be honest. Just a warm hello and looking forward for the shoot kind of small talk.
EDT is a remake of a Tamil movie. Is there a lack of content in Bollywood as it is borrowing heavily from its southern counterpart?
Everyone's been commenting about this, isn't it? But if something is worthwhile and a story has worked for audiences before, I guess it's good. Many others that have been remade became hits in Bollywood. It's just easier when so much rides on a film these days, they're very viable. The South Indian films have a flavour that goes well with Bollywood audiences as long as the content is good.
You once said dancing is a challenge. We see you dancing in EDT. Was it difficult?
Yes, since I didn't rehearse much. I was blessed with some ace choreographers, Brinda and her students. Brinda is a veteran dancer. She made it so comfortable for me.
What's next?
There is a film called Issaq, an action romantic thriller.
