Dubai: Forget on-set drama and diva tantrums, there was no love lost between Bollywood beauties Rani Mukerji and Vidya Balan as they came into Gulf News for an interview and helped put together an edition of tabloid! last night.
Mukerji, who plays a journalist in the film No One Killed Jessica, looked beautiful in a bronze slit dress while Balan, who plays the sister of a murdered girl, was dressed in an Indian-inspired maxi dress with embroidery
"Controversies don't really matter," Mukerji said, when asked about the stories regarding her tiff with Balan. "Whether we are friends or pretend to be friends or not friends doesn't affect a movie."
Balan added: "At the end of the day what is most important is how we perform and that is what people should look at, not the controversies around the stars."
Although they seemed to be having fun as they cracked jokes, the drama, which they have come to promote, has a much darker story line.
A retelling of the murder of Jessica Lal, an Indian model who was brutally shot to death by an Indian politician's son in 1999, the story and the case following it have become one of India's most high profile criminal cases, thanks to the powerful people involved.
Mukerji, who's back to the big screen after a long break, said the story had to be told and that she was lucky to be involved in the film. "It's also fitting because Jessica's birthday is coming up on January 5," she said.
No One Killed Jessica will release across the UAE on January 6.
