A month after picking up the Variety award at the Dubai International Film Festival, the King's Speech star was in Palm Springs to pick up his Desert Palm Achievement Actor Award at the Palm Springs International Film Festival, and was churning some rather familiar speeches about the magic of air travel: "Two days ago, I got on a plane in a very icy gray London," said Firth, echoing his comments about Dubai's warm weather a month earlier. "It's a miracle to me that 10 hours later I can be here in the fragrant breezes of Southern California."
Also honoured at the festival was Natalie Portman, sporting a tiny baby bump, who took home the Desert Palm Achievement Actress Award, Robert Duvall, who received the Career Achievement Award, and Danny Boyle, who was awarded the Sonny Bono visionary award.
