Dubai: Bollywood actor Abhishek Bachchan on Saturday voiced his desire to raise his seven-month-old daughter Aaradhya in “as normal a way as possible’”

“There is no attempt at secrecy or shielding anybody … We work in an overwhelming environment,” said Bachchan in an interview with Gulf News while promoting his comedy Bol Bachchan in Dubai.

Over the last few months, the new parents Abhishek and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan have fought furiously to keep their daughter away from the media glare even though the paparazzi has been trailing them all day trying to catch a glimpse of their daughter. Currently, a picture of Aaradhya with just her eyes peeking out is being circulated wildly. However, the son of iconic actor Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bachchan, maintains that it’s just his protective paternal instincts coming to the fore.

“It’s a tad unfair. If I don’t show my daughter it is secrecy and if I go around showing her the right way, people say that I am flaunting her. You are damned if you do and damned if you don’t,” said Bachchan, who added that he knew about his father’s profession after he hit his teens.

“We had a very normal upbringing till then. With Aaradhya too, we take her out, go for walks etc,” said Bachchan.

His Bol Bachchan co-star Ajay Devgn was quick to support him.

“When a child is small, every parent wants the child to be shielded from photographers. When they are grown up, it can’t be stopped but till you can, I think you should,” said Devgn, who said he adopted the same protective approach when his daughter Nysa was born.

Moving away from the topic of good parenting and to their latest film, Devgn said that Bol Bachchan is unapologetically Bollywood with its loud characters and its string of song and dance numbers.

“Audiences who wish to be entertained will not be disappointed. It has some of the wittiest one-liners,” said Devgn.

The ongoing controversy over its producers Shree Ashtavinayak Cine Vision Ltd failing to clear dues of Rs410 million to another producer Raju Shah has not tainted the promotions of Bol Bachchan, added Devgn.

Bol Bachchan has nothing to do with the Raju Shah and Ashtavinayak issue. There is been some miscommunication, but it’s between them,” said Devgn, adding that release rights of Bol Bachchan were sold to Fox Star Studios.
