Second edition takes place at Ajman Youth Centre on September 8-9
Ajman: The second Ajman International Jiu Jitsu Championship will take place at Ajman Youth Centre under the patronage Shaikh Ammar Bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, Crown Prince of Ajman, from September 8-9.
Part of the Abu Dhabi World Professional Jiu-Jitsu Qualifying Series, the event offers world rankings points and is open to all, irrespective of age or ability.
Ajman’s second hosting of the event highlights the emirate’s growing profile as a jiu-jitsu hub, and underlines the UAE’s commitment to spreading the sport nationwide.
Fahad Ali Al Shamsi, UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation (UAEJJF) board member and chief executive officer, said: “We are honoured by the kind patronage of ... Shaikh Ammar Bin Humaid Al Nuaimi ..., to advance Jiu-Jitsu in the emirate of Ajman, and uplift its current presence.
“We aim to provide a competitive environment and achieve sporting excellence at both a domestic and international level. This championship is an ideal event for athletes aspiring for professionalism and official ranking.”
It may be noted that His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, is a keen supporter of jiu jitsu and first gave it a status as the UAE’s national sport. It was first introduced to the UAE in the late 1990s by Shaikh Tahnoun Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, National Security Adviser, who became known as the ‘father of UAE jiu jitsu’.
You can watch the event on Abu Dhabi Sports Channel ADTV 2 from 10.30am on Friday. It will also be covered live on the UAEJFF’s social media platforms. For more information, visit: www.uaejjf.com.
