Abu Dhabi: As part of its ‘Your Safety Our Happiness’ awareness campaign, the Abu Dhabi Police called on motorists to abide by traffic laws during the Eid Al Fitr holidays.

Brigadier General Ahmad Al Shehi, Deputy Director of the Traffic and Patrols Directorate, advised drivers to observe speed limits, pay attention to the road, leave enough distance between vehicles, ensure passengers fasten their seat belts, take rest when feeling tired, and turn on the hazard lights when slowing down, or stopping.

Al Shehi also urged motorists to check their vehicles properly before beginning a long journey. He also advised them to inspect their tyres and not use counterfeit tyres as they could burst in the summer heat.

Traffic patrols are monitoring highways, especially the Abu Dhabi-Al Ghuwaifat Road, which witnesses traffic congestion during the Eid holidays thanks to tourists and residents coming and going.

Al Shehi cited dangers posed by using cell phones to reply to messages, or calling while driving.
