ABU DHABI The second edition of Abu Dhabi Live will have an interesting addition this year with the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation deciding to take part in the event that will be held from November 13 to 15 at the Zayed Sports City.

The aim of the Federation will be to promote sport at the grassroots level and also encourage a healthy lifestyle among the community. “Jiu-Jitsu teaches a healthy lifestyle because of the discipline it brings on those who practice the sport. Being part of any event that will create an awareness of Jiu-Jitsu is important for us to further promote and popularise the sport in order to attract new audiences and young prospects,” CEO of the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation Fahad Ali Al Shamsi told XPRESS.

“Regular programmes like this can only raise the profile and spread the sport to new areas. Jiu-jitsu is one of the fastest growing sports in the region both among men and women, and of all ages,” he added.

Talented youngsters

The federation will also keep an eye on talented youngsters during the event and support them to take it up professionally.

“The UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation in association with the Abu Dhabi Education Council launched the schools programme in over 100 public schools in Abu Dhabi. It has already produced more than 38,000 youngsters. Again, I can say there is room for more young talent to emerge from this Abu Dhabi Alive programme,” Al Shamsi said.

During the weekend, live Jiu-Jitsu classes and demonstrations will also be held along with many other interesting activities to promote the sport.

Abu Dhabi Alive is also dedicated to educating people about their own personal health. Visitors can take part in a number of interactive health and fitness features, such as interactive games, a rock climbing wall, fitness classes and cooking demonstrations, as well as get involved in a range of sports they may have never tried before.

Throughout the three day event, there will also be a number of free advice sessions with expert health and fitness professionals, as well as onsite medical checks and body composition assessments.

Alexandra Lebon, group director of business development and marketing - WL Hospitality Group said, “What we will be bringing to Abu Dhabi Alive this year has something to offer to all ages and abilities, while also presenting both an exciting challenge and the benefits of looking after one’s health and wellbeing.”
