dubai Former South Africa bowler Meyrick Pringle, part of the Proteas’ 1992 World Cup squad, was in the UAE and spend quality time with budding cricketers of the Maxtalent Academy.

Having played four Tests and 17 ODIs for South Africa, Pringle was known for his ability to control the swing.

The clinic turned out to be a success with over 55 kids attending at the Al Nasr Sports Club and the 48-year-old spoke to XPRESS about his trip and his plan of holding more clinics in the UAE.

How was the trip to Dubai and how did the interaction with the boys during the cricket clinic go?

I had a fantastic time with the boys. The interaction was brilliant and they are willing to learn and put in that extra effort. I worked on their bowling and other aspects of the game.

How did you find the talent in the UAE at the junior level?

They are very enthusiastic. In fact I was surprised by their talent. I see a bright future in them if they are guided properly. I feel that the academies should bring in more cricketers to the UAE to help them understand the nuances of the game.

Academies from the UAE including Maxtalent have sent their teams to South Africa as part of exposure tours. Will you be interest in getting involved?

I would love to be involved. I find that an academy like Maxtalent Global Sports is a dynamic organisation with wonderful leadership. They have been doing a good job and we will take all necessary steps to further strengthen our ties which will help the boys.

Do you plan more visits
to the UAE?

I would love to come back and offer my expertise. The plans are there and I should be visiting UAE more often.

What’s your take on the current South African team especially keeping next year’s World Cup in mind?

I’m really looking forward to the World Cup next year. I think South Africa can finally do it considering the way they are playing right now. But India would be a serious threat as I think they can win it again.
