DUBAI: The Philippine government has blacklisted six UAE-based cargo companies over extreme delays or non-delivery of “balik-bayan” (homecoming package) boxes sent by Filipino expats here.
In a recent advisory, the Philippine consulate in Dubai stated that Manila authorities are investigating the counterparts or agents of the six foreign “principals” – or cargo consolidators - based in the UAE.
“These companies are under investigation by the Philippine Shippers’ Bureau (PSB) pertaining to undelivered balik-bayan boxes and other violations,” said Geronimo Suliguin, Vice Consul in Dubai. He named the following companies: Al Rodah Marine Cargo, Casablanca Marine Cargo, Cityline Cargo, Dagupan Cargo Packaging Services, Express Link Cargo Services and Smooth Express based on PSB’s list. PSB comes under the Department of Trade and Industry. The advisory was posted on the consulate’s website on December 7.
“It is a warning to our citizens, especially during this season, to avoid sending Christmas or any packages through these companies following numerous complaints,” said Suliguin.
There was no immediate response to XPRESS’ requests for comments from the companies. Al Rodah, Cityline, Dagupan, Express, and Smooth have no working phone numbers in the UAE. Casablanca Marine Cargo is unlisted on online yellow pages.
The six UAE-based forwarders form part of PSB’s blacklist of 32 cargo firms. In the past, PSB said they had assisted complainants, many of whom were only able to get their boxes after a long wait.)
