Dubai A Nigerian landed in court for being part of a 50-member gang that attacked a Ugandan worker after he alerted the police of their gambling activities.

The Ugandan said he called police when he saw two men being beaten over a gambling dispute. Police arrested three gang members while the others managed to flee.

Shortly after the police left, the men came back and attacked the worker.

“They punched me, hit me with stones, tore my clothes and stole my belongings including a cellphone and Dh1,820 in cash,” he recalled.

The Nigerian, who was identified in a police line-up, denied assaulting the worker but admitted he had his mobile phone.

“The Ugandan gave me the phone so I could call the police,” he told the court in tears.

The next hearing in the case will be later this month.
