Dubai: A bad pedicure, manicure or other treatment can invite fines on beauty salons as high as Dh20,000 depending on damage done, a senior official told XPRESS. Hafid Guloom, head of the health monitoring section, Dubai Municipality said: “Absence of proper hygiene, in some cases, can have dangerous consequences. Customers must observe hygiene followed by salon staff and can call us on 800-900 if they notice the service is not up to the mark.”

The civic body slapped Dh182,500 in fines on 245 salons across the emirate for violating health and hygiene standards in August. Violations included the use of unhealthy herbs, oils and unauthorised products, poor hygiene and staff working without occupational cards. Some men’s salons were fined for not complying with prescribed hair disposal methods.
