DUBAI An Emirati man accused of kidnapping and raping a 24-year-old Iranian girl in the back seat of his car was sentenced to life in jail on Wednesday.

According to court records, the 31-year-old man had asked the girl to meet him at the Dragon Mart car park and hand over her CV and a copy of her passport. This was after he had assured her during an online chat that he would help her get a job.

While the man maintained that it was the victim who wanted to meet him, the girl insisted that the Emirati demanded she hand over the documents in person.

They met on August 2, 2012, at 8pm in the parking lot.

“He was very polite and offered financial help, which I accepted, having insisted on paying him back as soon as possible,” the victim said.

According to her testimony, the Emirati offered to drive her to the workplace where he said he had secured a job for her. But soon after she got in the car, he stopped at a side road, dragged her to the back seat of his car and raped her twice.

He then dropped her back at Dragon Mart. She said she got into a taxi and went to the nearest police station to file a report.

“I never raped her and I never drove her anywhere, we talked and then I left,” said the man in court last December.

The accused may appeal the sentence within 15 days.
