Dubai: Ordinary exercise is just not enough to keep fit. Your lifestyle, mindset and what you eat counts a lot, says a Dubai-based health expert.

“Only sustained lifestyle habits combined with fitness can help you achieve total well-being,” said Alex Van Lierde, personal trainer, nutrition coach and co-founder of Health2GO, Dubai.

According to him, people are too busy these days to follow any strict regime – be it exercise routine or lifestyle habits. However, Health2Go has come out with a unique health concept which aims to encourage a healthy lifestyle and help people get fit and healthy.

“Not everyone is keen on going through rush hour traffic after work to make it to the gym or seek advice from a nutritionist to address weigh tissues. Keeping all these factors in mind, we have created the Lifestyle Change @ Home programme wherein we bring customised fitness solutions to your doorstep,” Van Lierde added.

Tailored workouts

The Health2GO concept does not involve a gym. Trainers come to your home and provide fitness solutions tailored to your needs. “You don’t need any gym equipment. We bring dumbbells, bar bells and other exercise paraphernalia when we come over. The regime includes stretches, resistance, endurance and weight training, stress management, etc,” Alex said.

The programme imparts fitness in a holistic manner – total integration of mind, body and spirit. “We look at things like medical history, job, stress levels and even hobbies when we assess you for a lifestyle makeover,” he said.

Goals and targets are set up based on an individual’s needs as well as his physical condition. “We take into account things like fat percentage, metabolic rate, medical history and set targets accordingly,” Alex said.

Another advantage of this programme is that it allows the entire family to join in the workout. “People can opt for a family workout night once a week. It is not only fun but also allows them to spend some quality time together in a way,” he said.

People with medical issues too can workout. “Our trainers are equipped to handle medical emergencies, including CPR procedures. We always bring a first aid kit when we come to your home.”

Clients are required to go through fitness tests and movement screening to assess their body’s flexibility. “We make them go through a number of exercises to assess his/her flexibility level. Our trainers will then make a note of the levels and conduct routines accordingly.”

Prices of sessions vary and are based on age, gender, medical condition, etc. “The first session is free because we have to check a person’s commitment, fitness and flexibility levels as well as other health factors including past history of exercise, injuries etc.”
