Six Dubai head chefs are combining their expertise to prepare the world's biggest biryani bowl for a gargantuan feast at the Global Village on Friday.

The bowl will contain 2.5 tonnes of chicken biryani, which organisers Sadia reckon will be enough for around 30,000 people, roughly the equivalent of the entire population of Umm Al Quwain.

The task is onerous, but the people behind the event remain undaunted. In order to ensure that the bowl is up to the challenge, they have got it refurbished with an extra layering of steel at a Sharjah factory.

The 50 odds chefs involved in the record-breaking feat have also steeled themselves for the big day. Teamwork, of course, will hold the key to success and Uwe Micheel, head chef at Radisson SAS Hotel, Dubai Deira Creek and Emirates Culinary Guild President, knows this well.

"Normally, we're competing against other hotels. But for once, we are working as a team. We want to show what we can do together,'' he said.

Micheel and the head chefs at Majestic, Shangri–La, Dhow Palace and Metropolitan hotels will oversee the preparation along with Emirates Flight Catering, who will cook the rice.

Around 120 people will help scoop out the biryani from the bowl to visitors. Bon appetit.
