Yet again Sabyasachi Mukherjee has proved how popular he is in the UAE as a designer. The event showcasing his latest collection Full Moon at the Raffles Hotel had practically bare racks as tabloid! visited it around noon today.
“This happens every year and we’ve had an amazing response today also. People had been queuing up since 8.30am, so we had to open early. In fact, I came late myself”, said Rohini Gehani, owner of Rivaage boutique and the organiser of the exhibition. “People are still coming in as a few of the 120 statement pieces are left”.
Based on their experience, Gehani said she had anticipated this situation and fresh stock is being flown in for tomorrow. “We already have a person flying in from Kolkata with more pieces as we will have more people coming in for the exhibition from around the GCC tomorrow,”. she said
Mukherjee, who created the Cinema Suite at 51 Buckingham Gate, Taj Suites & Residences, London, in November, felt the whole experience was “heartening”. Even though the exhibition is visited mostly by Indians, the 39-year-old, has a lot of Pakistani fans.
“I’m always nervous about my trunk shows. No matter how confident you are about your designs and hard work, you are never sure whether you will be able to sell them. I feel relieved more than anything else.
“I have a lot of clientele from Pakistan and as the trade routes between India and Pakistan are currently not easily accessible, Dubai is a great place to interact with them. It was also heartening to see Arab ladies coming from Kuwait and trying on lehngas and sarees,” said Mukherjee.
Sabyasachi’s Full Moon collection is open until 10pm today and from 2 to 8pm on Friday.
