Rapper 50 Cent opens up about his music, Dubai and more
Rapper 50 Cent chose Dubai as the last destination of his world tour in which he visited places such as India, Kosovo and Angola.
Speaking to the press before he went on stage at the Dubai Media City Amphitheatre, Fifty gives us some soundbites worth remembering:
On Dubai
Fifty, who has performed in the UAE once before, chose Dubai as his last stop, "because it's so beautiful. I wanna end on a high note," he said.
Asked if he'd invest in a Dubai property, 50 Cent, who is selling his Dh30 million mansion in Connecticut for a "change of pace", said: "Maybe a one-bedroom flat. It's too expensive here."
Next up
"I'm going Christmas shopping for my son," he said. He then has plans to go touring in Canada and will start promoting his upcoming movie Home of the Brave, which he expects will be released in April.
In regards to his music, he said: "I'm gonna focus on a G-Unit album now. A group album," he said, referring to his crew consisting of Tony Yayo and Lloyd Banks.
Fifty said he's open to collaborations with artists from other genres, but doesn't put country music high on that list. "I don't think me and Garth Brooks are on the same page," he said laughing. "I was supposed to work with Robbie Williams, but then he went to rehab," he added.
On his music
"People thought Kanye West was competition. It wasn't. The real competition is 50 Cent vs 50 Cent."
"People wanted something new from me. So I created Ayo Technology with [Justin] Timberlake.
"The process of creating Curtis for me was totally different from Get Rich and The Massacre. I feel like now I kinda overwrote The Massacre. In that time period I also created material that made The Game famous with the six songs that I made for his album, especially How We Do. I was in a great creative space during The Massacre.
On acting
"The most painful scene for me in the movie Get Rich or Die Tryin' was when I didn't have any dialogue and I had to recreate the scene from the operating room [after being shot]. But I didn't have a picture in my mind of what it was like, because I was unconscious when it really happened to me. The process of that was therapeutic for me."
On his beef with Ja Rule
50 Cent and rapper Ja Rule have long had issues with each other.
"Certain things just won't go away. Regarding Ja, he had some opportunities to do something positive… but then they go and call themselves murderers," 50 said. "He's cold as ice right now," he added laughing.
When Fifty learned that Ja Rule is coming to Dubai next month to perform he said: "Probably won't be anyone there. It's in some small nightclub."
On pain
Fifty has survived being both knifed and shot. Upon being asked which is worse, he said jokingly: "Being shot or knifed? It depends on where you've been knifed!
"It's more painful when a relationship doesn't work or [you experience] the loss of a loved one. People think I'm all big and strong and say, ‘can they even hurt you?' Oh yeah… they can."
