A week after reports of an angry feud between Lindsay Lohan and Ugly Betty star America Ferrera over "unprofessional behaviour", cast members of the show have come to Lohan's defence, saying that the drama was blown out of all proportion.

According to an article in the New York Post, Lohan's role on the show was cut from six episodes to four, after a series of diva-like stunts. The newspaper said she was trying to play a power game, refusing to arrive on set before Ferrera, trashing her dressing room, "smoking 24/7" and arriving on set accompanied by her entourage.

"[Lindsay] was a hard worker," Vanessa Williams later told Entertainment Tonight. "She showed up on time and [in] the scenes I had with her, she was completely prepared. She was great with me."

Ugly Betty co-star Becki Newton also shot down allegations of tension on the set, telling OK! magazine, "I think people love drama, and I think when you watch the show you'll see the drama was between the characters on screen.

"I think if people actually watch the episodes they'll see that," she says.

Newton added that while the conflict between Lohan and Ferrera was confined to the script, even a fictitious feud would not have affected next season's plot, which Newton points out wrapped weeks ago.

"These episodes, we filmed them over a month, maybe two months ago," Newton says, "so it's amusing that it's this drama now. The drama is all on screen."
