Egyptian pop star Tamer Hosni plans to release a music video of his album, Ya Bint El Eih, on Valentine's Day. The multi-talented star is also working on a movie titled Captain Hina, which will be released this summer.

And girls, the 30 year-old has plans to marry and settle down! At least that's what he told journalists before his big night at the Dubai Media City on Friday. Organisers said his gig brought in 8,000 fans.

This was his first gig in the emirate and Hosni was in Dubai for the Shopping Festival, which presents a host of activities for the month. "It is a great honour to be in such a cosmopolitan city as Dubai. I take this opportunity to express my delight to interact with my UAE Fans for the first time in such an extraordinary annual event," said Hosni.

The singer said his internment last year taught him many things. The publicity also helped his movie Omar w Salma turn into a huge hit. He was jailed for presumably forging documents to avoid conscription.

Excerpts from an interview:

What have you learned from life so far?

Life is a school where you learn so many things. My life in the music field is fairly young — just five years. My success is due to my own efforts. In my view and as experience has shown me, pain and hardships bring both hope and success.

Speaking of pain, how do you meet the challenges in your industry?

Any industry has its positives and negatives. The audience is very educated and knows how to differentiate between the two opposites. The fake usually fade away. Singing is not just entertainment, and becoming famous and earning a lot of money does not make yours a timeless name.

You are not only a singer, but also a composer and write your own songs…

I interpret what I feel. If there is an unborn thought in my imagination and I find it to be meaningful, then I work on it to feature it as a story for a movie or a song, such as in my movie, Omar w Salma.

Critics did not like your movie.

If it wasn't good, then how come it made 26 million Egyptian pounds (Dh17 million). In any work you will find supporters and critics. It is so hard to satisfy everyone.

The movie was inspired from your experiences. Is it true?

As a matter of fact it is. I been through a very rough and unforgettable stage of my life. I said, why not present such a real episode to the Arab youth and educate them how to overcome obstacles of life confidently, and be strong to face the society. It was an attempt to correct the negative image that some people created. At the end, right always wins.
